HONK NYC! 2024 Celebrates the Spectacle
Street Bands are all about participation and it’s the dancers, the performers, the accompanying costumed spectacle that puts the sass in the brass and turns passersby to participants.
HONK NYC's Master Makers' Table is MORE than an activities table. It's an invitation to dive into the process of making, out of recyclable materials, anything you want. We encourage march band crafts: paper plate maracas, marching band hats, paper sashes & badges. We also offer Bespoke Your Bike Spokes, a bike decoration project. What YOU do with the free materials on hand for your creative pleasure is up to you. Our Master Makers and High Crafters help you along! Come one, come all!

The Boxcutter Collective is made up of seven core members who met while working at the Bread and Puppet Theater and bonded over their shared passion for waving things around and pretending that the things are talking. This is called “puppetry,” and it is a highly respected artform in every culture except this one. Their work addresses current political movements drawing inspiration from anti-fracking activists, efforts to unionize workers, anti-war demonstrations, decolonization thinkers, abolitionist strategists, and others. They have toured internationally and performed at venues across NYC including La Mama ETC, Coney Island USA, Amant Arts, El Clemente Cultural Center, Rubulad, and the Jalopy Theatre. They are currently working on an anti-capitalist sci-fi puppet musical, Dimension Zero, which will premiere in full in 2025.
