5:30pm - Da Capo Brass Band

Jazz drummer Darrell Smith leads Da Capo Brass Band in traditional NOLA style 2nd Line music. Smith has been featured in festival performances locally and internationally at the 2019 NCPA Jazz Festival in Mumbai, Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island and the Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Dr. Smith also held a residency as the drummer for the jazz brunch at Smoke Jazz Club for the last seven years.

Quenia Ribeiro is a dancer, choreographer and dance instructor from Rio de Janeiro Brazil with over 25 years of experience in Samba and Afro-Brazilian dance. She has been featured in interviews and performances broadcast on PBS, ABC, WPIX, Telemundo and CBS Television. As a dance instructor she has been teaching and conducting workshops for Samba and Afro Brazilian Dance in NYC since 1997.

HONK NYC is proud to announce our new music + spectacle project, The HONK Family Band, led by our music director, Elijah J. Thomas. The HONK Family Band is a collective expression of movement, music, and mayhem, allowing us to further our mission of connecting communities through music-making, pageantry, audience participation, and education.

7pm - Frank London’s ¡No Pasarán! Street Band

Trumpeter/composer Frank London is a co-founder of the Klezmatics, Hasidic New Wave and has performed with John Zorn, LL Cool J, Mel Torme, Lester Bowieπs Brass Fantasy, LaMonte Young, They Might Be Giants, David Byrne, Jane Siberry, Ben Folds 5, Mark Ribot, Maurice El Medioni and Gal Costa, Called the “mystical high priest of Avant-Klez jazz,” Frank has made 30 solo recordings and is featured on over 400 CDs. His latest project ¡No Pasaran! is a brass trio plus percussion that blurs the borders between chamber & folk music, composition & improvisation, Jazz & world music, traditional & avant garde.
