June 22

Michael Winograd & the Honorable Mentshn

Join clarinetist Michael Winograd and his crew for a night of toe-tapping hits from their vast cannon of Bulgars, Shers, Freilachs, Horas, Polkas and more.
It being the band's only NYC show of the summer, one can expect some hot performances from this bunch.  Be not surprised at tempos a few bpm faster, and volumes a few dB louder than you've heard before!
With Michael Winograd (clarinet,) Brian Drye (trombone,) Will Holshouser (accordion,) Shoko Nagai (piano,) Zoe Guigueno (bass,) and from New Jersey David Licht (drums.)

AURORA NEALAND brings us her take on New Orlenans style trad jazz with her Royal Roses

An established bandleader, composer, performer and improviser,
Aurora Nealand has become a prominent force in the New Orleans music scene.  Combining the “formal education” – a music composition degree from Oberlin Conservatory and training at the Jacques Lecoq School of  Physical Theatre in Paris –  with the “informal”  experience of playing music in the streets and clubs of New Orleans and throughout the northern Hemisphere, Nealand has emerged as an innovative, sensitive and daring music creator and performer.

She is most recognized for her performance on saxophones, clarinet and vocals and has been at the forefront of the revival of New Orleans Traditional Jazz, with her band The Royal Roses, but also collaborates with Bill Frisell and Tim Berne and leads the rockabilly band.

The Cirkus Amok Band

Circus Amok has presented free political circus shows to the people of New York City since 1989. Providing the soundtrack to their one-ring spectacle is the Circus Amok Band, a tight-knit group of five playing an eclectic repertoire of unlikely circus tunes. Sun Ra meets Bhangra meets funk meets traditional circus with a highly nuanced and radically humorous, gender-fluid spin on every note.
