☆ 6pm Mambembé NY ☆

Mambembé NY is an Afro-Brazilian percussion band led by Everton Isidoro. “A bembé is a party for the orishas. During a bembé the orishas are praised, saluted and entreated to join the party through `mounting' one of the priests or priestesses in attendance. This is done through a confluence of the song, rhythm, and movement, all calling to the orisha in such a way that the orisha will recognise themselves in the lyrics, rhythms and dances as they have been performed for them for perhaps thousands of years.”

Quenia Ribeiro is a dancer, choreographer and dance instructor from Rio de Janeiro Brazil with over 25 years of experience in Samba and Afro-Brazilian dance. She has been featured in interviews and performances broadcast on PBS, ABC, WPIX, Telemundo and CBS Television. As a dance instructor she has been teaching and conducting workshops for Samba and Afro Brazilian Dance in NYC since 1997.
